Rp thread: The Experiment

Postby Endorenna » Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:25 pm

Hey, all. I'm planning a thread to introduce a character of mine into Exodus history. Her bio is below:

Species/Race: 3/4 Human, 1/4 Cathar
Name: Ytan
Gender: Female
Place of Birth: Coruscant
Year of Birth: 2 BBY
Age: 19
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 117 lbs

Biography: Ytan was born in the Underlevels of Coruscant. Her mother was a human prostitute; her father was a half-human, half-Cathar. She never knew her father, only what he was. When she was six, her mother abandoned her, ostensibly because potential customers didn’t like Ytan’s yellow eyes and sharp temper.*

Ytan quickly learned to fend for herself. She was beaten many times because of the Imperial influence—racism was rampant, and the prejudice against part-humans seemed to be even stronger than the prejudice against full “aliens”. After the New Republic took over Coruscant, the hatred subsided a little, but not much. She had no friends or allies but herself, and therefore no one to protect her. Finally, nine long years after she was abandoned, she met someone in a cantina who told her how to leave the Underlevels without paying the large fee required at the main gates. The only problem with the route was a large gang. She tried to slip past them, but one of their members caught her and made a rather forceful pass at her. She literally ripped his throat out with her bare hands, then stole his knife. From there, she went on as quickly as she could, with several other men from the gang chasing her. She made it to the surface just as the Imperial attack (led by Damascus) began; in fact, it was what saved her from her vengeful pursuers. They were unwilling to go out into a war zone just to kill one girl.

The next few days she spent dodging bombs, falling buildings, and soldiers from both sides. Once the hellish battle was over, she found herself practically alone in the middle of the ruins. No one cared about a lone girl—not when the balance of power in the galaxy was shifting. So, she continued to fend for herself while everyone else was busy rebuilding the planet.

Ytan continued her dreary existence as another person stuck in the mid-level and ground-level of Coruscant. Occasionally, she picked someone’s pocket for credits, or just out-right stole from some two-bit shop or an apartment. The authorities chased her once or twice, but her high running speed (a gift from her Cathar genes) helped her evade them easily.

After almost four years of that miserable existence, Ytan caught the eye of a smuggler passing through her area. He managed to corner her and convinced her to come back to his ship. She wasn't naive enough to think that the smuggler actually cared about her well-being--all he wanted was someone to keep him company while he went about his illegal business. Ytan managed to avoid landing in his bunk, despite his repeated attempts to put her there. She watched his every movement carefully, secretly learning how to pilot the ship and fire a blaster, among other things.

Finally, three months later, the smuggler came back drunk and tried to force himself on her. She killed him, took his credits and his blaster, and left the ship, only to find herself back on Coruscant.

Ytan is currently living off the credits she took from the smuggler, carefully rationing them. She’s found that she has to be more careful now that she’s killed someone—apparently, one of the smuggler’s associates told the authorities about the Cathar-human girl who’d been with him at the time of his death. The authorities have tried harder to catch her since then, and they’ve almost caught her twice. She’s not sure she’ll be able to get away the next time.

*The entire first paragraph is what Ytan knows about her origin and is not necessarily true.

Ytan is the result of genetic experimentation designed to discover ways to make humans stronger and more able to physically compete with aliens. The Imperials, her makers, were anxious to see how their experiment would work in a harsh environment, so they put a female agent (posing as a prostitute) in charge of the child and left them both in the Underlevels of Coruscant. The “mother” watched Ytan carefully as she grew and reported back to her superiors regularly. When the Emperor died in 4 ABY, the agent was ordered to come in immediately—the Empire needed every loyal servant it had. The experiment was now unimportant; the scientists who had made her were dead, and the project was dropped. Years later when someone reported a Cathar-human murderer on Coruscant, an officer realized that the mix was impossible. He dug into the old Imperial files and found the file on Ytan. Now the officer is trying to recapture the experiment, sure that he’ll be up for a promotion if he does so.

Appearance: Ytan, at first glance, looks like pretty much every teenage human in the galaxy, but upon closer examination, it’s obvious there’s something strange about her. Her long, dark brown hair is human enough, apart from a few streaks of light brown among the dark, but her slightly slanted eyes are honey-amber, like gold. Anyone shaking her hand would immediately notice that her nails are very sharp; it would take her biting someone for them to discover that her teeth are sharp as well (though her canines are a bit longer than a normal human’s). She’s lithe and agile, like a cat. Her skin is light, except for some odd brownish streaks on her arms. Right now, her clothing is simply a cheap brown tank top and pants matching the same description.

So...yea, I kinda need a thread to bring her in. It'd be a little weird to have some random girl in the Mid-levels suddenly start participating in galactic events when she's shown no prior interest in them--unless, of course, she's forced to, which will be the point of the thread. The beginning will be about her getting captured, I guess, and the events of the thread after that will be determined by the rest of the characters in the thread since she'll be powerless for a while.

Is anyone at all interested in participating in this RP?

All ideas and suggestions are very welcome.

Great. ^_^ Do you have a particular character in mind for the thread, if you decide to join in?

If any of my characters were in the position (both physically and traits-wise), then I would offer them up as being involved. But, alas, the closest I have to an ideal match is also... umm... a borderline psychopath. :P

My question is if there's something in particular that you're looking for. Jedi, Sith, Merc, average joe, combination of whatever, you know.

I don't have a preference, lol.

PS: Ytan may or may not be Force-sensitive. It'd be pretty sloppy for the scientists who made her to miss that--but of course, in the book Death Star, we saw that an experienced doctor didn't know the signs of Force-sensitivity in a full-grown, natural-born person, so the scientists could've simply written off the high midichlorian count as a side effect of the unnatural genetic combination.

Heh, well, like I said, I doubt that she'd be of interest in helping someone else out.

http://starwars-exodus.wikia.com/wiki/Subject_Zero

The nice bit is that they both share a similarity... but, ah, yeah... they're not really all that compatible. She's not meant to be a person that one would like to hang around:

"Zero clearly refused to trust anybody, only in herself and what she could get by doing things on her own. Combined with her violent nature and attitude, this added a sense of sociopathy, which only made her a less pleasant individual to be around."

:P

Well, no not really. I don't have any character laying around inactive right now that would be able to fit the bill here.. We could work through something here, or over PM, or if you've got MSN over that too. I'm open to about anything just depends on what direction you're wanting to take things and I'll put someone together to make it happen.

I'm the same way as Vague. I've got it narrowed down to four chars (smuggler, thief, or a duo of lost padawans) that should work, just need to get a feel for the thread and it's direction to make the final choice.

Hope you don't mind me jumping in. Thought I might try my hand at playing an antagonist for a change. My character, Nova, is a bounty hunter whose real name is Elena Connor. The reason she changed it is because some stuff happened to her in her past that she wanted to forget. That same stuff, however, could give Ytan a way out when it comes time to turn her over to Nova's employer. She's also not in the habit of revealing all of her skills to her enemies, so even though she can fight she often chooses not to.

Nova can also get Ytan involved with galactic events if you want. She has a history that ties her to Kalja Leidias (Kalja's indirectly responsible for the death of her whole family :P) and eventually the two are probably going to meet. That might get Ytan mixed up with the Cult of Shadow and Halo's War of Darkness.

The rug shifting may or may not have been caused by Nova, who knows? Anywho, if you want me to change anything just let me know. ;)

Edit:

By the way, I put up a wiki for her that might shed some light on what exactly just happened. It's still a work in progress but I'll have more information up for her soon.

Ytan can choose to trust her or not. If she doesn't Nova will just follow her and be conveniently placed to help her out the next time she gets into trouble. If she does well then they can go to the starport and find out that Nova's ship has been impounded by the Imperials. ;)

... Well, actually that last part's going to happen regardless. :P

The events described in my last post happened on Vorzyd V, Nova's home planet. 500,000,000 people were killed in the anarchy unleashed by Sivter and his cronies.

Pryde, what happens next is your call. Ytan and Tzi can go find something random to do if you want Nova to continue following them, or you can have Nova make her move, or whatever you have in mind. :)

I was thinking they might run into a small group of storm troopers. Then Nova could come out and "convince" them that it would be a good idea to leave. That gets her involved with the Empire and when they go back to tell their superiors what happened they'll run a scan on her face to find out who she is. When they find out they're dealing with a Jedi they'll have to call in some special help to handle her, that should make things a bit more interesting.

Hmm...only one problem with that. Ytan's already in the doghouse for killing a stormtrooper, so she'd just try to kill this group if they attempted to take her into custody. She would promptly be shot, which would sorta end the thread.

If you want, I'll have that happen, and Nova can step in to keep Ytan from getting shot (or something along those lines).

Tsivoin could also intervene before Ytan shoots one of them on the notion of not wanting to get shot dead himself...?

'Cause a thousand words, call out through the ages. They'll fly to you, even though we can't see... I know they are reaching you, suspended on silver wings. Oh a thousand words, one thousand embraces... Will cradle you, making all of your weary days seem far away... They'll hold you forever...
