I went ahead with it, and I'm enjoying the audiobook a lot. Michael Kramer and Kate Reading are great narrators, and the same ones who narrated A Memory of Light , the last of The Wheel of Time series. I listen to it on my smartphone, and it's nice to have when I'm doing chores around the house or t...
Anyone here a Brandon Sanderson fan? I'm pretty excited about the upcoming release of his second book in The Stormlight Archive, Words of Radiance . I'm kind of short on cash and time to sit and read, so I'm toying with the idea of signing up for a free trial of Audible in order to get it for free i...
I'm a bit disconnected from what's going on in America these days, so my first clue that there was a shutdown was in my first Introduction to Management class at my college here in Jerusalem. Our teacher informed us that we can't receive our textbook from the library yet, as it is a new book that ha...
When visiting brandonsanderson.com I came across these recordings of Brandon Sanderson writing a portion of his next book, Words of Radiance , which I thought were pretty neat. For those of you not familiar with Brandon Sanderson, he's an increasingly well-known author in the fantasy genre, both for...
I saw this article on Fox News about my sergeant from advanced training. He has a very inspiring story. I still feel awe thinking about what an incredible soldier he was, even according to standards of people with two arms, but my appreciation for Izzy is even more for the genuineness and profession...
If you decide that you'd like to buy some of Sanderson's work, his book The Way of Kings is on sale for a month for $2.99 in Kindle format. It's a huge book, so that's a great discount. It's normally $8.99. You could also try to win a copy of the print edition by commenting on the discussion thread ...
I used my Kindle all the time when I was in the army. It helped me not go crazy, especially pulling 2-4 watches last winter on Mt. Hermon. I'd add the Mistborn trilogy, Elantris, and Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson to Palin's list. They're not only great writing, but they're very long. If you want t...
Hey Smokemare. Major props on taking the step to put your work out in the market. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to give feedback as you requested. My wife and I just moved, so I've been pretty busy. In addition to the reason of being tied up with life, I've delayed commenting because I had a hard ...
I saw this on TED and I thought it was pretty neat: HULC Exoskeleton . While it's also being applied to assist paraplegics to walk, I was personally intrigued by the benefits for soldiers since my back was injured doing heavy lifting in the army. The main downside would be the logistics of rechargin...
Sounds like the same problems we have. We have another type that are called in our army slang "ninja" knee pads. They work great and don't have any of those issues, but they're relatively rare and I never managed to get my hands on any.
Hey Vague - Are those the knee pads you use when you are in active service? Do you find they work well for you? They look similar to what we have over here, and we have a lot of problems with them.
Don't feel bad, Balsa. I didn't even remember that I posted in this thread. It's easy to forget little things like that which happened over four years ago.
Thanks for lending me Smokemare's book, Dave. I just accepted the loan and I now have it on my Kindle. I also joined a Kindle lending group on Goodreads and requested to borrow the Wool Omnibus. I read the sample and it seems really interesting. I loved the plot twist in the first book regarding the...
I just read that Kindle books may only be loaned once. I edited the first post to emphasize that as well. Thanks for offering those books, Maul. Are you still willing to lend them even though you can do so only once? If you change your mind, I understand. It's a bit of a bummer to discover that limi...
I finished the sample and I definitely would like to read more of your story, Smokemare. Dave, I sent you a PM with my email address. Thanks for being willing to lend it to me. The reason it took me so long to reply was that I purchased and read The Name of the Wind by Pat Rothfuss. I enjoyed the bo...
I had actually just finished reading the sample of your book when you posted that If someone's willing to loan it please let me know and I'll shoot them my email address.
The Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. I'd be happy to lend them to you on your Kindle. Just send me a private message with an email if you want to borrow them. EDIT: I just noticed that you mainly want Sci-Fi. If you only want series, then I don't really have anything for you, but if you're inte...
Anyone interested in borrowing and lending Kindle books? I have a pretty tight budget, so even with the reduced prices on Kindle there are a lot more books that I'd like to read than I'm able to buy. Even if you don't have a Kindle account, you can download a free Kindle app to your computer or hand...
I had an idea of how to use what was found on the transports in conjunction with the data, but I had kinda figured Delth would mention the killer robots. Any way to add that in, or did you not mention them on purpose?
The chime of Cerin’s datapad coincided with the sounds of men and machinery, indicating his shuttle had cleared the shield and entered the atmosphere of the Insidious’ docking bay. Outside of a quick movement of fingers to bring the message contents to his view, both events were noted and then quick...
Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try to come up with something based on your ideas. FYI, I'm starting my military service in about a month, as I won't be able to write for a while after that. My goal is to move this part of the storyline far enough along so it has a good momentum you can easily...
Couple of questions: 1. Did Delth give Cerin the custom communication device and datapad that he took off of the lead impostor's body, or is he only tasked with analyzing the data he collected from the Teamore servers? 2. Any thoughts on what we'll find in the data from Teamore? I got the impression...
OOC: I'm glad you moved my character along. If you need to do so again this week, feel free. I'm finishing my job on Thursday, so there are a few projects I need to wrap up that are occupying my time. Hopefully next week I'll be more free.
Cerin felt as cold as he sounded. He always wondered if he’d have what it took to kill someone, and while he didn’t know how he’d feel after doing it like this, he knew he wouldn’t hesitate. And he knew that everyone else in the room knew it as well. Everyone had frozen except for Delth, whose light...
Cerin was really starting to wonder why Ardin had requested an aide to assist with handling Imperial protocols. He had a feeling that the commander preferred to deal with the local officials in this manner even when there wasn’t a planet’s survival at stake, if that didn’t describe most of his missi...
OOC: On Sunday I had the first meeting for the recruitment process with the I.D.F., and it was actually pretty similar to how it played out in this thread. The main differences were that practically the entire recruitment center is staffed by 18 through 21 year olds (primarily female), and they didn...
