Episode 7 News

Post by corsos »

One of Disney's executives announces Episode 7 will take place 30 years after ROTJ.

In other words the leads will likely be Luke's, Han/Leia's kids.

As far as current Canon goes, it's an interesting choice. Putting the new movie directly after the New Jedi Order Series, but right before the Joiner Trilogy...

I know there hasn't been any indication that any of the cannon between 4ABY and 34 ABY will be kept, at least this sheds a glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe they aren't looking to do a full on EU reboot, and instead are simply targeting the last ten years worth or so of aditons, like Joiner, Legacy of the Force, and Fate of the Jedi series'...

One more question, they said Lupita Nyong'o would play a/the female lead...

As...? Some mention Lando's daughter, but I didn't know he had one?

I hate all this cloud around it.

Guess what day it is... guess what day it is... !

No, it's not hump day....

That said, I didn't read any of that, predominately due to the fact I'm on my phone. I might later, just in case it's real, though. But mostly if I remember. :p

Either way, it's "Take Everything With A Grain Of Salt" Day. Otherwise known as "You Don't Trust Nobody" Day. So... Tread lightly, my friends. And no, I, unfortunately, have nothing planned for you all this year.... :(

Most of these are old posts.
The Hollywood Reporter says Nyong’o met with Abrams a few weeks before she took home the Academy Award, possibly for the part of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s daughter or granddaughter—a role that was previously described as a “twentysomething female who is either of mixed race or black,”
Obi-Wan had a kid!?

Again, didn't read. Too inconvenient in current circumstances.

He did have a relationship with someone, didn't he? I know Qui-Gon did, but I can't remember if Obi did or not....

I'm still pretty sure they're not making the EU into movies. They're doing new things that will probably destroy the EU.

Just like the last time around.

I can't imagine it being the Dark Nest, the Yuuzhan Vong, or anything like that. It's too unrecognizable for people unfamiliar with the EU. In fact, if we're lucky, those things will have never happened. At the same time, by putting it 30 years out, they leave room for most of the EU to stay intact. Sort of bookends the time frame, though, so there's less space for more written adventures later on. *shrugs* I quit reading SW books that take place chronologically after the New Jedi Order series, and I haven't read many SW books at all that were released after that. With the exception of Timothy Zahn's work, it's probably been, I dunno, ten years or so?--since I read any new SW books.

Personally I prefer not knowing. Too many great movie moments in the past years have been ruined for me by the internet and press releases from months or years before a movie came out. I keep thinking that if Empire came out today, we'd all know Vader is Luke's father a year before release, and ruin the shock of the scene.

I'd be happy to not know anything until I sit down in the theatre and see the movie myself.

I just don't like rumor mills like with the girl I spoke about and then the original cast and all this other crap.

Cause then you start scrambling to try and piece something together in the hopes that the crap isn't going to be ruined.

Although, I have a feeling the guy from Star Trek is going to play a Solo O_O. Yes he also plays Dr. Who or w/e

He's kind of the spitting image of Kyp, but I don't think that will be the case.

Or not, because Jaina Solo doesn't exist in Star Wars canon.

At this point, it's much too early to guess. It's not even clear if Abrams is making a dynastic Star Wars, much less one using (only one of?) the Solos' kids from the EU.

Well, unless Adam Driver is playing Jacen Solo. The only clue we have is that he's playing a villain in the vein of Darth Vader, which could mean a lot of things and one of the things it could mean is family. Family has always been an important theme in Star Wars.

... Though you may be right and we could be completely off base here, no way to really tell until they announce characters.

Edit:

Actually, considering the meaning of, "in the same vein," Adam Driver's character almost has to be related too the hero somehow... Just speculating here.

Also, the way they're being so secretive about the characters in the movie to the point where the actors themselves can't even talk about it kind of makes me want to believe they're using characters from the EU. What's the point of keeping all that info for some kind of big reveal if all you're doing is casting for a bunch of blokes no one's even heard of?

...Well aside from giving away certain hints at the story, but that's not really the kind of information the fans are salivating over. >.>

They could also be trying to avoid a fan backlash against unknown (i.e., original) characters. I mean, it wouldn't be fair, but if they said, "The main characters will be Jack Calrissian and his wife, Luann Skywalker Calrissian!" then everybody would be up in arms and complaining about it. But maybe Jack and Luann are really strong characters, and deserve a story and movie of their own.

Also, movie-makers - J. J. Abrams especially - like to keep secrets for no reason whatsoever.

For example:
J. J. Abrams: "It's not Khan."
Everyone else: "It's definitely Khan."
J. J. Abrams: "His name's John Harrison!"
Everyone else: "It's Khan."
J. J. Abrams: "Nuh-uh!"
Everyone else: "Of course it's Khan."
J. J. Abrams: "Heyyyy, it's Khan! Fooled you! Neener neener!"
Everyone else: "..."

If the rumors about Luke's son are true, and John Boyega being the only Jedi are true, here's hoping Boyega is Luke's son. Which would be fantastic because Boyaga is great.

I haven't seen rumors about Luke's son yet. Saw rumors about a possible descendant of Obi-Wan but nothing about Luke. There's also speculation about Daisy playing the offspring of Han and Leia due to her sitting between Harrison and Carrie during the script reading, so who knows?

Though, I do find the idea of there being only one Jedi kind of ridiculous. Luke would have reconstructed the Jedi Order by now there has to be more than one.

Back when Jesse Plemmons was in the lead for the character it was rumored he'd be Luke's son. But then Boyega swooped in. So who knows.

And there is nothing wrong with Luke not remaking the Jedi order in any recognizable form. One of the messages of the Prequels and more so in the Clone Wars (all of which are canon now), is that the Jedi Order is incredibly ineffective. So to go right back to that model isn't learning from the past, it's just repeating the same mistakes. Instead of creating a force of police-monks, something new should be tried.

Of course audiences love :lightsaber: so there will still be a ton of Jedi likely, but maybe only one in the main cast.

Well, I hope that isn't the case. I for one would like to see a lead female play the Jedi this time around, it's been such a boy's club since Episode 4. It would also be incredibly awesome to see Jaina as one of the characters but I'm sure the movie will still be fun to watch even if she isn't.

In other news while digging around for rumors about Episode 7 I found news about a Robotech live-action movie and it actually looks legit... Maybe. I'll keep my fingers crossed but I won't get my hopes up.

I still believe Daisy to be Jaina, hopefully May 4th will reveal something.

Oscar Isaac = Jagged Fel?

Max Von Sydow = Gillad Palleon? LoL throwing some bs out there.

John Boyega = Lando Jr. :D :D :D

There is claim that Adam Driver could play an evil Jacen Solo.
Still, Driver would clearly make a compelling young bad guy. If Lucasfilm hadn't wiped over the novels' chronology, we'd say he's a shoo-in to play Jacen Solo, the son of Han and Leia who turns to the dark side and becomes Darth Caedus. That's still a strong possibility even without the novels, of course. After all, someone is going to have to turn to the dark side for the legendary war of Jedi and Sith — the prime mover of the Star Wars universe — to continue.
Domhnall Gleeson = Ben Skywalker
All of which would make him perfect for the role of Luke's son Ben Skywalker, who battles his cousin Darth Caedus — if, again, the continuity of the books had not been wiped over. And no director of a major space franchise would ever fake out the audience on whether a given character was appearing in a movie — right, J.J. Abrams?
